The reasons for this are not definitive but point towards a few recognized facts such as the speed at which women are more likely to drive, plus they are less likely to drive sports vehicles.

Women are even thought to be a better risk even when they have only just passed their driving test.

Some automobile insurance firms specialize in automobile insurance for lady drivers and will only insure females; they will not even insure a woman who wants to put her husband on the same auto insurance policy. In these circumstances they have to think about the husbands high risk factors as well and they would rather choose two females on the policy as it means providing less risk overall, meaning the insurance premiums will be lower.

These companies may exist with a lower profit margin than most large insurance firms but they are able to attract many customers to make up for the shortfall in individual premium shortfalls. For many women, it is now quite normal to arrange automobile insurance that also provides legal protection in the event of claims. It is always possible to obtain further reductions in the premium by fitting anti-theft devices and parking in a secure garage when not in use.
